Visiting Moku o Lo‘e
The Hawaiʻi Institute of Marine Biology (HIMB) is located on Moku o Loʻe (also known as Coconut Island), which is a small 29-acre island in Kāne'ohe Bay on Oʻahu. More information: HIMB Website. The address is 46-007 Lilipuna Road Kaneohe, HI 96744.
FORMS
All attendees must fill out the HIMB Waiver Form. You can use e-sign. Please complete the following:
Enter "Crawford Drury" as your sponsor.
Tick the "Visitor" box.
Enter the dates you will be at HIMB.
Under Covered Program enter "Visiting CRL" or what your CRL sponsor instructs you to write.
Print your name below the red dotted line.
Sign on the following page. E-sign is okay.
Email completed forms to himb@hawaii.edu with the subject line: WAIVER and cc who you have been in communication with from CRL.
Please also fill out the Model Release form and send to your CRL sponsor or who you have been in communication with. Only fill out the highlighted portion and a witness is not required. You can use e-sign.
WHAT TO BRING
A reusable water bottle and/or coffee mug
HIMB has no food services other than 1 vending machine. Please plan to bring snacks or a lunch
Clothes you don’t mind getting wet
Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses
Rain jacket
Comfortable shoes (covered or uncovered - you will be standing and they may get wet/muddy)
PARKING AND SHUTTLE VAN
The HIMB Lilipuna parking is currently closed, and everyone must park at Windward Community College and take the shuttle van. Please review the HIMB-WCC Day Visitor document with photos and maps.
All visitors must receive the hanging tag from the shuttle van driver and place the hanging tag in their personal vehicle.
You must return the hanging tag after your HIMB visit when returning back to WCC.
Please account for shuttle van & boat travel time. Plan accordingly to arrive on time with at least 15-30min buffer time.
SHUTTLE BOAT SERVICE
A shuttle boat is required to get from Lilipuna Pier to Moku o Lo‘e. Please click here for the schedule and more information.
HIMB RULES
Parking in the Lilipuna Pier parking lot is restricted.
No smoking of any kind is allowed at HIMB and the parking lot, including e-cigarettes.
Do NOT come to HIMB if you are feeling sick, even if it’s not COVID-19.
HIMB is NOT open to the public. Trespassing is prohibited and pets are not allowed.
Children under 13 years of age are required by law to wear a life jacket while in or on the water.
For safety reasons, we cannot accommodate children under 5 years of age on the island.
Do not touch tanks or experiments without permission.
Please ask permission before taking and posting photos of people and/or experiments.
Swimming is not allowed without approval from your sponsor.
